{Real Bride Series} Leah

What were your wedding colors?
Our wedding colors were soft neutral colors. We wanted to have a soft & elegant look, while still having the eclectic taste we love. We went with antique browns & grays for the bridesmaids dresses.

How many bridesmaids did you have?
We had 3 bridesmaids. Each in their own style & color dress.

Where did you find your dress? Was finding the dress a difficult process or relatively easy?
One day right after I got engaged, on a whim, we went to some close by bridal stores. I had no luck and actually felt completely discouraged by our lack of winners. A month later, we decided to book an appointment with David’s Bridal. I looked online and saw a few dresses I liked, but one really stuck out to me. Once we went to our appointment, the team at David’s Bridal on Ray & the I-10 were beyond helpful! They knew exactly which dresses I wanted to try on and in what sizes would fit me best. It was the last dress I tried on, out of three. (I wanted to save the last for best!) After a few misses, I would say finding my dress was a relatively easy process. I am still happy with the dress I wore.

Where did your ceremony and reception take place? Was there any meaning to the choice of venue(s)? The ceremony and the reception took place at my parents property in Chandler, Arizona. Their house was built in 1916 and has a lot of history behind it. I grew up in this home and had always envisioned getting married there. The yard has a red & white windmill, one of the first ever water towers in Chandler and beautiful gardens. We couldn’t have dreamed of a better place!

What flowers did you choose for your bouquet and throughout the wedding?

We worked with The Flower Studio to help create our flowers. We met with Kelly and Jamie, who are amazing, and they helped me with my vision. We used over 100 vintage jars and bottles for the ceremony décor and our table settings. My mother and I started collecting the bottles at flea markets, antique shops & yard sales. The Flower Studio created mini arrangements in each bottle and helped create the most beautiful bouquets for my bridesmaids! I wanted my bouquet to be a long stem bouquet with a very soft, elegant feel but with eclectic flowers. My bouquet was a dream!

What was the flavor of your cake?
We used Robert’s Catering in Chandler, Arizona for all of our catering. He created our dream cake! There were four tiers, two were Chocolate with Chocolate Mousse and the other two were Vanilla with Vanilla Buttercream.

Did you provide favors to your guests? If so, what were they, and what was the meaning behind them? We did provide favors to our guests. We had pre-bagged caramel with chocolate drizzle popcorn with a ‘thank you’ sticker on each bag. The favors were sitting on the table at their spot for the reception. We wanted something edible and sweet for them to take home when the celebration was complete!

Is there a detail that you had at your wedding that makes it unique? (alternative guest book, charitable donations, handmade décor, etc?

Honestly, the majority of every thing we used at our wedding was handmade. We created all of the programs, chalkboard signs, marquee signs & even created the bunting used to string in with our café lights. I used my grandmother’s garter & cake topper, and my mother’s veil. All of the details to our big day were special & unique to us. My husband created all of the ceremony benches using reclaimed barn wood.

What was your pick for "first dance" with your husband? Is there meaning to the song selection?
Our first dance song was “With a Girl Like You” by The Troggs. We wanted a different type of song that really represented our fun loving relationship. This song was our perfect choice!

Any favorite moments that stand out in the day?
We know the obvious is marrying your husband. One of my favorite moments that I really loved was having all of our friends & family there. We had a lot of friends and family come in from out of town, and that meant the world to us. We loved having them there to celebrate our love!

Did you take a honeymoon? If so, where did you go?
We went to Greece! We both had always dreamed of going to Greece so choosing that as our honeymoon spot was a no-brainer.

What is one piece of advice you will leave for future brides?
I would recommend all brides (especially the DIY kind) to make sure you give yourself enough time to accomplish everything you want. We were engaged for a year, and I started planning, crafting and collecting immediately. I would also recommend to hire either a wedding planner or a day of coordinator. We did not have a wedding planner, so we decided to book a day of coordinator. And believe me, it was the best decision we could have done!
